Play it Smart With a Prepaid Debit Card

These are tough economic times we find ourselves in. Everyone knows at least one person with a mortgage problem and who of us hasn’t had to deal with skyrocketing credit card interest and payments? We need to regain control somehow.

That’s where prepaid debit cards come in. These cards are really financial tools that we can use to take back control over our finances. Let me explain.

Prepaid debit cards have been around for a long time but they were under-used because credit was so easy to get. But in our present credit crunch, these cards are much more attractive because you can acquire one without having any credit whatsoever. And you can use one without ever paying interest or making minimum payments. They’ve become very attractive alternatives to credit cards.

And these cards are every bit as useful as regular Visa or MasterCard credit cards. They’re accepted in all of the same places and they have most of the same features and benefits as normal credit cards. But they don’t have the same disadvantages.

As an example, it’s very difficult to overspend with a prepaid debit card because you’ve pre-loaded a set amount on it and when it’s spent, the card will no longer be accepted. But credit cards allow you to spend up to (and sometimes beyond) some “mythical” credit limit. That causes money management problems down the line, interest rate issues, and minimum payment nightmares. That’s all avoided with prepaid cards.

You will have to be more prudent with a prepai card though. You won’t be able to buy things just because you can; you’ll have to give all your purchases more forethought. But that kind of planning and discipline will save you money in the long run.

That’s why more and more people are using prepaid debit cards. They recognize that we’ve all been going on for too long without proper controls on our spending. And prepaid cards are a great tool to help you rebuild good habits and fight your way back to financial security.

So, if you’re having some credit card spending issues of your own, why not try using a prepaid debit card for awhile? They’re easy to use and, since you don’t sign a credit contract, you can stop using them just as easily. They might just be the first step on your road back to financial recovery.
